Movie #102 watched on 4/2/2019.
Director: Jon S. Baird | Writer(s): Jeff Pope
I can honestly say that I did not know really anything about Laurel & Hardy but I definitely knew of them. Shoot I was taken by surprise when Stan Laurel started speaking with a British accent. My whole life I thought they were both American. You may go into this movie seeing it as just a run of the mill biopic but it ends up doing a decent job using the context of these two famous comedians to tell a story about aging and friendship. I think the really good movies can take any context and tell a story that is universal and relatable. “Stan and Ollie” definitely does that well. The performances and physical transformations from our two leads are great. They really pull you in and help you emotionally connect with these two individuals whose lives were professionally intertwined so tightly that their personal lives could not help but also follow suit. Great Sunday afternoon film.
