My Kelvin Harrison Jr tour continues! This film had been on my watchlist but I moved it up after having watched Waves, Luce and Monsters and Men.

I had no idea what to expect as I did not watch a trailer or read the synopsis ahead of time. I do feel that this contributed to my enjoyment. I was constantly on the edge of my seat wondering what was going on in the world as a whole and in the immediate bubble of our main characters.

When it comes to world-building there is not much here. I feel like the filmmakers rely on the audience’s shorthand knowledge of post-apocalyptic settings to fill in the blanks. At the end of the day what is happening in the outside world is not entirely germane to the story being told. At the end of the day, it’s about a family trying to preserve their humanity and their struggle to do so while surviving in this new world order.

Great performances overall. High tension. Loved the film.
