The world always needs uplifting rom-com’s. There is a formula to these things so if you want to stand out you have to bring a unique flavor, a charming cast with great chemistry and an interesting jump off point. I feel like Last Christmas did all of these.
The Christmas theme was flavor enough but the George Michael infused soundtrack really pushed it over for me. I love George Michael and I love how Paul Feig incorporated his music. I was always looking for which song they would use and at what moment. It was a lot of fun but also done very tastefully.
Emilia Clarke and Henry Goulding were fantastic. This movie is also one of the rare few where the supporting cast that really shine and make you want to spend more time in the world they created.
Fun movie and I recommend watching especially if you need a smile on your face.

Still here…? Ok…
So I knew something was amiss I called the twist early on. I had Joker flashbacks and kept convincing myself it was the same twist. When he took her to the apartment, at that point I thought maybe I was wrong, but I wasn’t. If you are going to do this kind of twist you have to make sure it works when you reveal the truth. For the most part it did but then I went back to the apartment scene. The movie was not really clear if he was an actual ghost that only she can see or if he was just completely in her head. I choose to believe that he was a ghost as it makes everything work better.
