I think I need to start a twitter account called “What Were They Thinking?”. Just like when I was watching “Another Earth” I could not help but think about the mindset Woody Allen was in when he wrote the screenplay for this movie. He must have been in a conversation and/or reading something when it dawned on him how many world renowned artists were in Paris during the 1920’s. His next thought had to be “How magical would it be to travel back in time and just be in the same room with these people.”. Those thoughts led to this movie. If that is not true I do not want to know the truth.
As far as the movie, I absolutely loved it. I have said it before and I’ll say it again (*), I love time travel movies. Woody Allan is not interested in the mechanics or rules of time travel and luckily its not to the detriment of the film. It’s handled wonderfully and you can easily accept it which allows you to fully invest in Gil’s (Owen Wilson) story.
The movie is absolutely charming. The viewer is just as amazed Gil. I wished that a car would come and pick me up and slide me into the past. I really enjoyed the scenarios that Gil was put in and learning about the magical 1920’s in Paris. This is a must watch!
