“A Rainy Day in New York” is the third Woody Allen film that I have seen and I think I am beginning to understand the appeal. The is a quirkiness to writing and dialogue and a world that he creates that is very interesting. He also loves to inject cities as almost another character and does a great job of achieving that.

As far as the story, I enjoyed seeing where the characters of Gatsby and Ashleigh were going to end up through the various adventures in the city but I did not buy the ending. I saw it coming because the marketing said it was coming but it didn’t really land for me and felt disingenuous to the rest of the film.

When the movie was over I appreciated the craft that went into making the film but it did not grab me. It felt like a lot of famous people taking their chance to be in a Woody Allen movie.
