Movie #112 watched on 4/12/2019.
Director: Babak Najafi | Writer(s): Steve Antin, Christian Swegal, John Stuart Newman
This movie was a fun, ok movie and we need a hell of a lot more of these kinds of movies. There are plenty of bad, blah and ok movies starring men but if a movie starring a woman is not 100% fresh on Rotten Tomatoes then that speaks to the ability for any movie to had a woman as the lead. Bullshit. By that logic, we should not have any movies because there are plenty of movies starring men that are crap and no one once said, “Oh well, I guess having a male lead was a bad idea.”. Enough of my soapbox. Taraji is a badass and she deserves to get a movie where she plays a badass. I can’t say this film will crack my top 10 all time but it will be a movie I recommend as fun entertainment. I watched some behind the scenes clips after finishing the film and I saw a lot of scenes that were left out of the movie. They looked like scenes that would have just reinforced Mary’s skills and her ability to handle herself. The movie still establishes that but it would have been fun to see more of it. Jahi Di’Allo Winston, who plays 13-year-old Danny, is amazing in this movie. He has some heavy scenes with Taraji and holds his own. I really hope he gets a chance to do something with his career. He is talented and deserves to show just how talented he can be.
