This is your standard teen empowerment movie with a number of the standard character tropes and all the minority characters relegated to supporting cast with very little character development but with a modern-generation-living-with-social-media twist.
All that being said, I did have some fun with this movie as I’ve always been a fan of these teen empowerment type films ever since I was a kid. There are a few nods thematically to Ferris Bueller‘s Day Off and even one directly with the movie poster in the main character’s bedroom.
I wonder if there will ever be a modern John Hughes in our future.
