I had to sit with this one a bit before writing my thoughts as it caught me off guard. When I got to the end I had to think to myself, “Did I like that? Was that actually amazing?”. Having had time, I think my answers are “yes” and “yes”.

I love SciFi movies that turn their lack of budget into a strength instead of making excuses and the Vast of Night does just that. The movie is full of unconventional film making choices that for some may be off putting but I appreciated in this movie.

And that is part of what makes this movie amazing. At one point I thought my TV was busted because the screen went black for about 5 minutes! Nope, that was intended. There is also an amazing tracking shot through the town that I need to go back and watch. This movie was just so well crafted and is so visually interesting even though it takes place primarily at night.

My only regret is that I watched this at home and could not watch it in a theater as I think it would have really had an impact.
